What brings value to seeing a physician?

               The patient is:

  •    listened to

  •    seen as a whole person

  •    provided time for discussion

  •    offered treatment to aid the patient's healing process

  •    invited to call with any questions or concerns

It feels to the patient there might develop a good doctor-patient relationship

with this physician, that this physician really cares.

Taking time with patients is the way physicians used to practice.  Time allowed physicians to know each patient as an individual, the whole  person, which better aided physicians in determining diagnosis and treatment possibilities.  They had a patient-centered practice.

In contrast, the current managed care fee system encourages physicians to not take as much time as they used to in a patient's visit.  Because of the dysfunction of the current system, some physicians opt out of Managed Care plans and choose to have a patient-centered practice.

So, in this modern medical world, my practice is uncommon because I choose to devote time and attention to each patient.  I choose to:

  • understand each patient is unique

  • listen

  • do a thorough evaluation

  • think both inside and outside the box

  • provide time for discussion

  • welcome the patient to candidly let me know when needing me to say or do something differently so the patient is comfortable in our interaction

  • offer treatment to aid the patient's healing process, when I think it may help

  • offer referral to a traditional  or holistic practitioner, in addition to or instead of seeing me, when I think it may help

  • invite the patient to call and discuss with me questions or concerns

The bottom line is this:  Most patients I see tell me because of the value of the uniquely beneficial service I provide, they feel it is well worth it to see me.  I hope you will find it so as well.
